My research focuses on assessing the impact of the organization of care on the health and development of babies born very preterm (<32 weeks of gestational age) in France and other European countries and on the effects of the restructuring of obstetric and pediatric health services on access to care for pregnant women and newborns. I also lead a project to develop perinatal health surveillance for the evaluation of health systems and policy in Europe. These studies principally use epidemiological methods and include collaborations with geographers and health services researchers.
Principal on-going projects
- SHIPS – Screening for Health for very Preterm Infants in Europe – project (principal investigator). Follows the EPICE cohort of very preterm infants (see project below) until 5 years of age in order to evaluate follow-up services provided to this high risk population. Financed by the EU Horizon 2020 programme(epiceproject.eu).
- Epice – Effective perinatal intensive care in Europe – project (principal investigator). Investigates use of evidence based practices in a population-based cohort of very preterm infants in 19 European regions; financed by the EU FP7 programme (epiceproject.eu).
- Euro-Peristat (principal investigator). An EU initiative to develop maternal and infant health indicators for monitoring health on the national and European levels; Euro-Peristat participates in the Bridgehealth project financed by the EU Public Health Programme (europeristat.com).
- Pathways to Reduce Infant Deaths Project investigating how hospital quality contributes to disparities in very low birthweight outcomes in New York City(co-investigator); financed by NICHD (R01), in collaboration with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York.
